I am currently studying as a Dance M.F.A. student at Arizona State University. This is a very exciting direction for my dance career, which started by taking a random dance class at Iowa State University, turned into dancing with the ISU student dance company, and then transitioned into dancing at ASU and (briefly but sweetly) with Scorpius Dance Theatre. Below is not very up-to-date list of my past works and performances.
This is an interactive piece in which the audience gets to decide what the topic of the piece will be. At the beginning of the show, after a token introduction that warms the audience to participation, they are asked to provide three topics for three sections of the piece. They are also given the option to send further requests during the show, by sending a text message on their cell phone. The rationale for requesting the topics/suggestions is that their requests will be sent via time travel to the past, so that a performance up to their specifications will have going to have been choreographed by the time of the show.
With the three initial requests in place, the real show starts. Each section features dancers that perform movement they find relevant to the topic that is suggested for that section. A video artist is also controling a projection with relevant imagery, as well as displaying the phone number that receives the text messages, and any requests received. Finally, my voice is sent out of the sound system, explaining how the movement and the imagery relate to the main topic, as well as incorporating any additional requests as they come in.
This piece was performed as a part of ASU's Technology Day Forum on April 1st, 2005. It was generally well received, and taught everyone involved some important lessons. I will upload the recording of this performance, as well as some more thoughts, soon.
I choreographed this dance during Fall 2003 / Spring 2004 while at Iowa State University. It was was selected for presentation at the American College Dance Festival, where it received a lot of interesting feedback. I plan to re-set this piece at some point in the future.
I will upload a video of a dress rehearsal of this piece soon.
One of the big Scorpius shows, I'm performing in 4 of the pieces that will be presented. You get to see me topless :-).
Participating in the free show at the Galvin Playhouse, starting at 2pm. The first half of the concert is a dance/technology performance piece "Lucidity" by Jodi James, Todd Ingalls and Loren Olson. The second half is a performance by Interface & Friends, featuring technology augmented instruments and live improvisation.
I am preparing the visuals for the PikaPika piece performed by Tomie Hahn and with music with Curtis Bahn, as well as playing my lolipops/colored gloves during the music improvisation part.
Performing at the ASU Graduate Showings in "Just An Experiment" by AJ Niehaus. You can view a taping of the performance in high or low quality.
Playing the role of "Strange Man" in Lisa Starry's A Vampire Tale.
